The Aya Morrison (“A.M.”) fashion brand is the beautiful creation of Helena Aidoo-Morrison, who from the year 2007 has had an undying quest to build her idea of the perfect African-inspired clothing, accessories and swimwear fashion line. She longed to birth a fashion trademark that encompassed sustainability, elegance, and luxury, without compromising the sophistication and comfort every stylish woman should revel in. By late 2008, she launched her fashion company, offering mainly print-inspired accessories such as handbags and belts and then went on to start her first ntoma-prints swimwear collection in 2009.
Throughout the years, she included unisex clothing and shoes to the line, which seemed like her dream had been accomplished, however, there was something incessantly lacking. The stress of discovering this nudging void had her body fluctuate in a series of sizes, during which she finally discerned what brought her satisfaction – finding the perfect swimsuit at every stage of her weight gain or loss.
Today, A.M. is a premium women’s swimwear brand, catering to the style-conscious woman who adores her curves and appreciates the luxury of basking in the sun no matter what size she is. With every collection in the line having a variety of pieces that accommodate all the lady bits, Aya Morrison seeks to encourage women of all shapes to love their bodies in swimwear, year round.
Each of our collections have pieces for the ‘heavy on top’, soon-to-be moms, new moms, ‘midsection hiders’, ‘fuller bottoms’ as well as petite figures.
Inspired by the ‘ntoma’ prints of Ghana, the A.M. team designs the brand’s very own prints for each collection, which is then ethically printed in the southern suburbs of Cape Town on to sustainable, luscious lycra fabrics, all yarned in Africa.
Aya Morrison’s focus is to design and create swimwear that tells a meaningful story, a story that empowers and emboldens the woman who wears an Aya Morrison piece; a piece of heritage, a piece of Africa.
